Ten years ago at SeaOtter, OPEN launched the first performance gravel bike. That U.P. launch was probably the most exciting we’ve ever done — media, product managers from other brands and loads of riders crowded our tiny booth to talk about a concept that genuinely divided opinions. “Rider position and speed like a road bike, let the tires take care of the terrain”, does that make sense? Not to mention the dropped chain-stay, direct-mount brakes without any adaptors and dual wheel size options.
This year we’re back at SeaOtter with the WI.DE. 2.0. Where the U.P. is built for fast gravel terrain, the WI.DE. 2.0 is built for terrain most people wouldn’t consider rideable at all. The goal is the same: keep the rider fast, let the tires handle the trouble. The original WI.DE. took off far beyond our expectations — turns out there are a lot of bad roads, and a lot of people who want to ride them fast. Time for V2.0.
The new Open WI.DE 2.0 bring the same groundbreaking changes to the “Monster” gravel bike world – 66mm or 2.6in tyre clearance on a 142mm non-boost wheels! It’s the perfect choice for going ‘Beyond’ the normal gravel roads in Australia and New Zealand.
